Ombudsman takes notice of delay in payment of cash award 2012 to female student

Wednesday, September 02, 2015 - Lahore—Ombudsman Punjab Javed Mahmood has taken notice for not awarding cash prize of essay writing competition to a female student of Tehsil Chunian even after lapse of 3 years.

He has directed Secretary Education, DCO Kasur and EDO Education Kasur to submit a report in this regard and fix responsibility. The notice has been taken on an appeal by Miss Kiran which published in a national daily.

According to details Miss Kiran, daughter of Mukhtar Ahmad, resident of Village Talvandi, Tehsil Chunia, District Kasur appealed to give her cash prize award which she won in easy writing competition in 2012, organized by Punjab Government during Youth Festival.

She disclosed that she initially stood first in easy writing competition held at Markaz Level and secured 2nd position in easy writing competition at tehsil level.

Government of the Punjab had announced to give cash prizes to the position holders under youth festival 2012 but she was deprived of her award.

“I was in class eight when I won easy writing competition and now I have passed my matriculation securing A+ grade and still waiting for my right”, revealed Miss Kiran.

She also mentioned that she belonged to a poor family and had to bear expanses of traveling, boarding and food from her own pocket during the process of easy writing competition.

“As I have passed my matriculation and wish to continue for the studies which I can hardly afford, payment of amount of cash award, pending on the part of Government, may help me a lot for admission”, appealed the bright Kiran.

Ombudsman Punjab while taking the notice of her appeal, published in national daily, has directed Secretary Schools Education, DCO Kasur and EDO Education Kasur to submit a report in this regard within 15 days.

Payment of cash prize to Miss Kiran will be ensured as it was her right in 2012 and action will be taken to the responsible officials who caused in-ordinary delay, told Ombudsman Punjab Javed Mahmood.
