NCHD, UNICEF launch project on children’s enrolment

ISLAMABAD: The National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) has launched the project “Every Child In School Initiative (ECISI)” in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Rawalpindi to enhance enrolment and literacy rate at primary level education.
In this regard, NCHD Rawalpindi and District Education Department Rawalpindi conducted a seminar on Wednesday at the district level to advocate and support the enrolment campaign of the Punjab government “Parho Punjab Barho Punjab”.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MPA Raja Muhammad Hanif Advocate said on the occasion that education is “what you need if you want an answer to your what is, how is and where is”. He further added that it is education which enables one to differentiate between the evil and good and it is also the education which enables one to understand one’s and others’ rights. However, an uneducated society plunges itself into darkness, backwardness, vices and poverty, he added.
NCHD Attock/Rawalpindi DGM Shahzad Hussain Hashmi stated that the commission is striving on priority basis, in collaboration with UNICEF, for 100% enrolment, birth registration and vaccination of all newly enrolled children in Tehsil Rawalpindi, Kallar Syedan and Gujjar Khan. He further said that NCHD in collaboration with UNICEF and District Education Rawalpindi has conducted a detailed survey for accurate figure of ‘Out of School Children’ in the above-mentioned tehsils. He said that without community’s and Education Department’s support this target was impossible to achieve. For 100% enrolment the social mobilisation at gross root is necessary, he added.
District Education Officer (MC School) Ch Shahbaz Ahamd added that budget constraints are the main cause behind non-achievement of 100% enrolment. He further added without creating awareness among all strata of society it is difficult to materialise 100% literacy rate.
The advocacy seminar was attended by various stakeholders like political leaders of Rawalpindi, District Education Department, district monitoring officer, the representative of District Health and Community Development Department, NGOs, Youth representatives, students from different universities, media personnel and NCHD Rawalpindi.
