Another 15 trillion cubic feet of gas discovered in Saudi Arabia's Jafura field

Saudi Arabia's oil company has discovered another 15 trillion cubic feet of gas in the Jafura field, the Saudi Ministry of Energy said that the new discovery includes two billion barrels of condensate (hydrocarbon).

The Ministry of Energy said in a statement regarding the Minister of Energy, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, that after the latest discovery, the resources in this sector have increased to 229 trillion cubic feet of gas and 75 billion barrels of condensate.

According to the official news agency, the statement said that the discovery, managed by the major Saudi energy company Aramco, is the result of estimating hydrocarbon resources and applying the highest international standards in their production, with the aim of ensuring their proper use. To be sure.

In November 2023, the Ministry of Energy announced that Aramco had discovered two new gas fields in the Eastern Province and the Rubal al-Khali region. The statement said that the first discovery was made in the Hanifa reservoir in Haran One well.

The Ministry of Energy said that this field was discovered after the release of gas at the rate of 30 million standard cubic feet per day from the said reservoir. 1600 barrels of condensate is in addition.

The second discovery was made in the Al-Mahakak Two well, where natural resources were being released at a rate of eight and a half million cubic feet per day. The ministry said gas was also discovered in five other reservoirs in the previously discovered fields, including the Jalla reservoir in the Asqara field. including, where gas was leaking at the rate of 4.6 million SCF per day.

In November, Aramco also began producing unconventional tight gas, also known as shale gas, from its South Gwar operational area, two months ahead of schedule. Where hydrocarbons are buried within rock layers.

Extracting these resources requires specialized techniques such as horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing, the facilities at South Gwar currently have a processing capacity of 300 million SCF per day for crude gas and 38,000 barrels per day for condensate. .
