University of Education confers degrees on 5,888 students

LAHORE: The University of Education Thursday held its 5th convocation at Township Campus.

A total of 5,888 students were awarded degrees. University of Education Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Rauf-i-Azam presided over the convocation.

Education minister, Pro Chancellor Syed Raza Ali Gillani, Punjab Higher Education Chairman Dr Nizamud Din were the chief guests on the occasion.

Those received degrees include: 2,504 students of BEd, 67 students of BEd special education, 490 students of MEd, 107 students of MEd and MA special education, 67 students of BFA, 331students of MA education, 29 students of MA education (L&M), 493 students of MA, 497 students of master of science, 200 students of MBA, 187 students of BBA (Hons), 187 students of BS (Hons), 107 MPhil students and 15 PhDs. Also, 196 position holders were awarded medals.

Addressing the convocation, the pro chancellor congratulated the students, saying: "We have gathered here to celebrate your brilliant success. It is now your duty to pay back to the society and contribute to the nation building and development."

He said that government was committed to ensuring quality education and that the Punjab government had taken concrete steps for improvement of education such as appointment of teachers on merit basis, establishment of computer labs at schools and colleges, provision of laptops to distinguished students.

University of Education Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Rauf -i-Azam also congratulated students and said, "385 regular faculty members are serving at various campuses and divisions of University of Education. At present 104 PhD and 170 MPhil faculty members, highly educated university faculty along with other accomplishments, places the university in the HEC ranking at 12th position.

He said that the university was swiftly achieving the milestones of need-based multi-level education and developing talent development institution by using its knowledge, resources and skills for growth of human resource.

In his address, Punjab Higher Education Commission Chairman Dr Nizamud Din extended his appreciation to all those who had, over the years, contributed their time, energy and efforts to establish a university dedicated to teacher education on sound footings.

"We need to invest for strengthening of our educational so that we can deliver good education,"
he added.
