Faculty members and staff of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will get financial incentives on development of research-based projects that contributes to socio-economic development of the country.

This was stated by AIOU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui while inaugurating a two-day workshop on ‘new teaching techniques and self- instructional material’, arranged by the Faculty of Education.

They will also be awarded cash prices for writing articles that helps the students to understand new development in their relevant academic disciplines. The workshop was aimed at capacity-building of the staff and exposing the new comers to the university’s working system and various components of teaching, evaluation and assessment methods.

He advised them to focus on writing books and developing study material to make the distance learning system more effective.

The university has already set a record by publishing scholarly written fourteen research journals in different disciplines within a period of nearly three years for providing academic support to the students at higher education level. There are eight journals already issued and one in process for the current year, and it has been planned to get published five more journals by the end of next year. Mostly are related to socio-economic problems of the society. This is in line with the criteria set by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), it was stated at a meeting of academic heads held here under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui.
