16 females lock horns with male heavyweights

Sixteen female candidates are contesting the local bodies elections on general seats in Dera Ghazi Khan district.
One woman is contesting election as councillor for Municipal Committee of Taunsa Sharif, 3 women as chairperson, one as vice chairperson and six women are contesting as councillors of union councils of DG Khan while five women are contesting election as councillors on general seats of District Council.
Dera Ghazi Khan District comprises 115 union councils, 17 UCs of municipal corporation DG Khan and 98 of district council including nine union councils of tribal area. According to the final list of ECP, a total of 520 joint candidates of chairman/vice chairman are contesting in the district DG Khan including 429 for District Council and 91 for Municipal Corporation. Similarly, for Municipal Committees of Kot Chutta and Taunsa Sharif, 53 and 98 candidates are contesting on general seats respectively.
A couple of Bairot Mundwani, Tuman Qaisrani tribe - Habibullah and his wife Rukhsana Kousar - are jointly contesting election for the slots of chairman (husband) and vice chairperson (wife) in Union Council 91 independently on the symbol of diamond.
Similarly, another couple of Block 5 of DG Khan city - Qazi Waseem Ahmad and his wife Falak Naz - are contesting election on the symbol of goat for the top slots of the Union Council 9. Former MQM worker Mrs Naheed Akhtar is also contesting election on the symbol of batsman as independent candidate for chairperson in the said UC of Municipal Corporation.
Edible seller Naseem Akhtar alias Khala Nimo is candidate of chairperson of UC-14 of Municipal Corporation DG Khan against strong male candidates fielded by MNA Hafiz Abdul Kareem, MPA Syed Aleem Shah, Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khosa Group and Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf.
Up-gradation lauded: The special students, teachers and local citizens have expressed gratitude to Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif and Secretary Special Education Dr Ambreen Raza for upgrading Special Education Centre Hafizabad to high standard.
According official source, the Finance Department has also released first instalment of Rs2.5 million for the provision of necessary facilities to impart education to the special children up to high standard.
Currently, three hundred students are getting education at the centre and their parents have been requested the authorities to up-gradation of the centre so as to enable their sons and daughters to get secondary education from the centre.
