FCCU convocation: ‘Education important to character building’

LAHORE:
Governor Rafique Rajwana said on Saturday that college education was important not just for acquiring skills in a specific discipline but also for making students good humans.

He was speaking as the guest of honour at the 15th commencement at the Forman Christian College University (FCCU).

The governor congratulated the graduates and said that he hoped they would use their education to serve the country.

In his commencement address, FCC Rector Dr James A Tebbe said the university was committed to enrolling students from a variety of religious and regional backgrounds to promote plurality on its campus.

As many as 589 baccalaureate and 78 master’s of arts and sciences and masters of philosophy degrees were awarded at the ceremony.

The graduate valedictory speech was given by Rabia Anjum, who had scored a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.96. Yasra Naseer delivered the postgraduate valedictory address.

As many as 25 medals were awarded to graduates of baccalaureate programme for achievements in particular disciplines and 16 certificates of distinction were awarded to high achieving postgraduates. Outstanding Student Awards for performance in co-curricular activities were given to 12 students.

Performance awards were also given to the faculty and the staff. Muhammad Adil Arshad, an assistant professor in Education Department, received the Outstanding Teacher Award; Kamil Shamshad, financial aid manager, the Outstanding Customer Service Award (Administrative) and Sunil Chohan, an assistant to the Operations Director, the Outstanding Customer Service Award (non-administrative).
