92 scholars leaving for higher studies in France

Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Tuesday announced that 92 scholars from all over the country would fly to France for PhDs and MPhil programmes under the ‘Overseas Scholarship
for MS/MPhil leading to PhD, Phase-II’.
Earlier, the HEC also has sent many scholars abroad to raise their academic qualification. According to the details as many as 654 scholars had been sent in France by the HEC to get education in various disciplines under different scholarship programmes. So far, 432 scholarship holders have successfully completed their degrees. However, under the Overseas Scholarship Programme, a total of 291 scholars proceeded to France, out of which 165 have successfully completed their PhD studies.

On the occasion, Higher Education Commission Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed while congratulating the selected scholars asked them for good utilisation of their stay in France and groom their capabilities in the field of research. “You will be ambassadors of Pakistan in France and we expect all of you to prove yourselves as socially responsible citizens,” he urged.

Dr Mukhtar said that Higher Education Commission emphasises for the development of the human resource programmes. For the purpose, the commission is making efforts to provide well-qualified faculty and researchers to the universities.

“HEC has allocated more than 35 percent of the development funds through merit-based scholarship programmes being managed by the HEC as well as by the public sector universities”, he revealed.

Addressing the participants, French Embassy Chargé d’ Affaires Pierre Fournier thanked HEC for sending scholars to France for higher studies. “The performance of Pakistani scholars has been recorded very well in the past and I hope they will also perform best in the future”, Fournier maintained.

While appreciating scholars, he said that it was the fact that number of Pakistani PhD scholars to France has been growing over the years. He advised the scholars to explore opportunities for their professional development and also act as ambassadors to build bridge between the two nations.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Higher Education Commission Member Human Resource Development Dr Raza Bhatti advised the scholars to utilise their stay in best possible manner. He said that the HEC would remain in constant contact with scholars for facilitating them.
