The Sindh government has decided to register FIRs against the education and treasury officers involved in the appointment of 4,000 fake teachers in Sindh. The cases would be registered against directors, assistant directors and district education officers.
This was decided at a meeting held under the supervision of chief secretary Muhammad Siddique Memon. The meeting was attended by education secretary Dr Fazalullah Pechuho, anti-corruption establishment Mumtaz Ali Shah, implementation secretary Syed Tariq Mehmood Jafferi, special education secretary Alya Shah, special finance secretary Hussain Rizvi and director of the chief minister’s inspection team, Nazir Dhoon.
The chief minister’s inspection team submitted two reports to the meeting. In the first report, it held the then District Education Officer of Kamber Shahdadkot district, Deedar Hussain Jalbani, responsible for fake appointments of teachers. The other report pertains to two officials of the now defunct Karachi Development Authority (KDA).  The KDA officials, identified as Mumtazul Haq and Nasir Abbas, illegally allotted plots to builders. “Officials of the education department and the district accounts offices have opened fake IDs of teachers and released salaries to them,” said a senior official of the chief minister’s inspection team, adding that around Rs500 million were released in this regard every month.
“All education directors have been asked to submit a detailed report of their employees. After verification of the credentials, action would be taken against these employees,” said chief secretary Memon.
Official sources said that the fake appointments had been made in the previous and present tenure of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) government in which the then minister, secretary and current education secretary were involved.
Sources privy to the development told The Express Tribune that such action has been taken to avoid raids by NAB and FIA from being conducted against these officials. They want to give the impression that it is against the corrupt mafia and there is no need for the FIA and NAB to take action,” said a senior official of the CM’s inspection team.
When contacted, the education secretary refused to comment on the issue. “I am not feeling well, therefore cannot comment on it,” he said.
