CM orders survey, annual inspection of private schools’ buildings

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that implementation of Parho Punjab Barhro Punjab programme is continuing successfully for the promotion of quality education in the province.
He said that a target has been fixed under this programme for the enrolment of every child by 2018 while special targets have also been set for raising the standard of education. He was presiding over a high level meeting here today which reviewed in detail the progress of Parho Punjab Bahro Punjab programme. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that spending of funds for the promotion of education is not expenditure but useful investment. He said that resources will continue to be provided for the development of education sector but he wants results. The Chief Minister said that Punjab government has made investment of billions of rupees in education sector during the last seven years.
However, he said, it is only the beginning of a long journey and a lot of work is still to be done for the uplift of education sector. Shahbaz Sharif directed that vigorous efforts should be made in the next three years for the achievement of the targets of this programme and a comprehensive project should be formulated after reviewing public-private partnership. He said that Parho Punjab Barho Punjab programme should be implemented in accordance with the modern demands. The meeting also decided immediate repair and construction of dilapidated buildings of public sector schools in the province.
The Chief Minister said that a sum of 15 billion rupees will be spent in a year for the repair and construction of dilapidated school buildings and no compromise will be made on the standard of construction work. He said that it is responsibility of authorities concerned to ensure quality construction work over school buildings. The Chief Minister also constituted a provincial steering committee to monitor repair and construction work of school buildings while committees are also being established at district level for this purpose. He also directed that a survey of private school buildings should also be conducted in the province and a system of annual inspection of these buildings be evolved after mapping of private schools.
Provincial Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed, Chief Secretary, Chairman Planning & Development, Secretary School Education and concerned officers were present in the meeting Shahbaz Sharif attended the oath-taking ceremony of two new provincial ministers at Governor’s House here today. He congratulated Rana Sanaullah Khan and Dr. Ayesha Ghaus Pasha on assuming their new responsibilities. Later, a meeting was held between Governor Punjab Rafique Rajwana and Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif in which matters of mutual interest and development programmes were discussed. Speaking on the occasion, Shahbaz Sharif said that provincial government has taken solid measures for raising the living standard of deprived segments of the society. He said that mega projects are being executed in the province for provision of basic amenities and relief to the citizens. Shahbaz |Sharif said that development schemes are being completed on priority basis in various districts of south Punjab. He said that like previous years, more funds will be allocated than the ratio of population for the progress and development of south Punjab.
He said that measures will continue to be taken for the provision of relief to the masses. He said that work is being carried out speedily on projects worth billions of rupees for the uplift of rural and backward areas. He said that construction and rehabilitation work of all rural roads will be completed by 2018 under Khadim-e-Punjab Rural Roads Programme. He said that funds of billions of rupees are being allocated in the new budget for public-welfare projects.
National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq met Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, here today. Matters of mutual interest and development projects were discussed in the meeting. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that national economy has stabilized due to solid policies of Pakistan Muslim League-N government while relief has been provided to the masses in the real sense by reducing electricity tariff and the rate of petroleum products. He further said that PML-N government led by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is moving ahead on national issues with mutual consensus and every effort of the government is directed towards progress and prosperity of the masses.
