KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Friday said IT company Axact because of its wrong deeds has come into the grip of law.
He said an investigation into the fake degree scandal of Axact is going on and whosoever is found responsible will be punished as per the law of the state and no leniency would be shown to accused person(s) in any condition.
The chief minister was talking to the media after inaugurating the first day of ‘The News Education Expo 15’.The three-day education exhibition has been arranged by the Jang Media Group and is being held at the Expo Centre. A large number of youngsters along with their parents visited the stalls of local and international educational institutes to seek information for higher studies in the country and as well as abroad.
The Sindh chief minister, who was the chief guest, clarified that neither the state nor any of its functionaries were involved in the alleged scandal, so it was not at all the question of Pakistan being corrupt. The investigation would reveal every aspect of the fraud being conducted by the IT company and also expose the people behind it, he added.
Those who are involved in the crime being carried out by the IT company will suffer badly and proper action would be taken against all of them, he mentioned. “There is a general concept that Sindh is behind in the education sector as compared to other provinces, but I would like to ensure you that such exhibitions will help remove this tag, as many universities under this roof are offering better education opportunities and a number of students showing their interest in various fields clearly show that how much awareness people have about education and its need in life.”
Meanwhile, the provincial Educational Minister, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, the guest of honour, said that assembly members have also discussed the matter of fake degrees at the Sindh Assembly. He said those who committed dishonesty in the matter of education should not be pardoned.
Replying to a question, he mentioned that though the scandal has been linked with the country, which was not true as only one private firm was involved in it, and the government is trying its best to reveal the truth.
Khuhro said that in the past allegations were levelled against the public sector’s examination boards for allegedly issuing fake educational certificates but now it seemed that certain people related to civil society had also equally become partners in crime.
Regarding the issue of Axact, he further said that a good aspect of the matter was that people had come to know about bogus operations of the company and proper investigations should be conducted. He claimed investors would not leave the country due to this infamous scandal, and would continue their work.
The Jang Group is a big name and they should regularly conduct such activities to educate the people so as it could be helpful in making them better citizens, he expressed.
At least 150 stalls of local and international education institutes as well as British Council and The United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan were present at the education exhibition to guide students regarding their future and career.
